J Ramen & Sushi 18

J Ramen and Sushi is tucked away down at the end of Hewitt Ave. in downtown Everett. It’s an oasis of friendliness and good food that’s out of this world. Across the street from the iconic towering stevedore, and next to the Anchor Tavern, this fairly new establishment fits right in with all the new development in Everett’s downtown. I bumped into a couple that swears by the place and dines there at leaset 2-3 times a week. They’re both working professionals that are delighted with the ambience, variety and friendly staff.

J Ramen and Sushi

The combination of ramen and sushi is a logical pairing, and general manager Jay says it’s all about the broth and fresh fish. The amazing ramen is made from a broth that is made from pork and chicken bones, simmered in a 30 gallon pot for about 3 days. It’s constantly monitored, strained and refilled with fresh water until it’s the right consistency and flavor. Then come the amazing toppings and ramen noodles.

Additionally, there are the creative sushi and rolls. The fish is fresh daily and when I had the raw scallops, which Jay declares–no soy sauce or wasabi! Letting the freshness of the sea come through as this morsel melted in my mouth was truly a sublime. Even without the wasabi.

Inside feels friendly and comfortable with warm wooden trim that just feels like home. There’s a spacious banquet/party room that’s available for parties or special occasions along with the intimate sushi bar that gets you up close to the culinary artistry. It’s open for lunch and dinners and closes around 9:00.
